Lothian and Borders Ramblers – News
Area AGM

60 members of the Lothian and Borders Area took part at their AGM on Saturday 14 January. 40 joined a walk in the morning arranged by the North Berwick Group, and then enjoyed the hospitality of the group with soup and sandwiches for lunch. The meeting saw the departure as Chairman of Arthur Homan-Elsy. Arthur had been a founder member of the Edinburgh Group, and had served in various capacities on the Area Council for nearly 30 years. He was formally thanked by the Area Treasurer Dorothy Stewart and by his long time colleague on the Area council David Grosz, and presented with a small gift.

Peter Sanders, the new chairman, thanked everyone for their support and outlined his plans for carrying the Area forward. He appealed for help from members in these plans. Sheila Capewell was elected as secretary, thus filling a post which had been vacant for two years. The meeting also carried without opposition a new constitution, updating the one which had been in existence since the start of the Area.

After the end of the formal meeting, Jeannie Cranfield, Games Legacy Advisor at Ramblers Scotland, spoke about her plans to develop initiatives towards encouraging active travel as a legacy of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in 2014.

The Area Council is very grateful to Bernard Ginty, the North Berwick Chairman, and his committee for hosting the meeting and providing refreshments.
